Using Price Exceptions

The Price Exceptions option is used to set pricing adjustments to the base selling prices entered in Set Selling Prices or allocate part of the selling price to cover a cost associated with the customer, such as freight, commission, rebates, etc. These price adjustments can be applied to all customers, or to specified customers, and for a single item or groups of items, item class, or price class. The base selling prices can be adjusted by a fixed dollar amount per pound, or by a percentage of the base selling price. The base selling prices can even be replaced with a special fixed price for certain customers, against which other exceptions can be applied. The price exceptions can be tied to particular days of the week, how many days in advance of shipping the order is placed, or a minimum order quantity. Price exceptions can even be set to start on a given date, and expire on a given date.

Ultimately, this option gives users tremendous customized pricing flexibility. A price program can be used to group together several price exceptions which can be quickly be applied to a customer. Price classes can also be used to configure pricing. The system allows one of eight user-defined base prices to be assigned to multiple pricing classes – these price classes can be assigned to a customer. For example, wholesale customers could be assigned to price class 10, which uses base price 1, while restaurant customers could be assigned to price class 20, which is based on base price 2. Price exceptions can be added to price class 10 and would only apply to price class 10.

Off-invoice price exceptions are used to show a deduction on the invoice based on the quantity shipped at the rate of the price exception. The deduction for the off-invoice price exception is recorded based on the off-invoice item specified. The item must be configured as an off-invoice item . The Sales Cost Accrued setting in Ledger Options must be set to Yes to create an off-invoice price exception.

Hint: When creating pricing exceptions, begin with those exceptions that apply to the broadest group of customers and items for a particular price class or base selling price. Additional price exceptions can be added to further adjust the base price for particular customers and/or items.

Note: A fixed pricing exception entered for a customer will override all other prices for the customer.

To view which price exceptions are being used to calculate a particular item price, use the Price Exceptions Inquiry.

Price exceptions can only be entered for items designated as P (P=product type) and C (C=carton type); pricing exceptions cannot be entered for other-type items.

The price exception capability is limited to 100 price exceptions per customer or customer maskCollapsed.
